Energy Crisis
We can no longer afford the debate between use of traditional
fuels and alternatives. We need a suite of energy sources that
includes coal, hydro, natural gas, wind, petroleum,
geothermal, nuclear, solar and bio-fuels. We need an effort to
become energy independent similar to the space program, which
gave us solar technology among others. We have simply not
followed up as much as we should have.
John Salazar voted against drilling off-shore, against
facilitating new refineries and introduced a bill to stop
drilling on top of the Naval Oil Reserve which contains some
seven trillion cubic feet of natural gas. He has supported
excessive bio-fuel subsidies which may have the least
potential of the alternatives I mentioned. I will vote for
responsible off-shore drilling. I will also work to establish
an oil shale collaborative made up of environmentalists,
energy producers, ranchers, sportsmen, Chambers of Commerce,
local government, agencies, water experts and other
stakeholders. The goal would be the development of steady,
responsible strategies.
Safe Food
The importation of apples and peaches from China that
threatens to put fruit growers in the Unites States out of
business is counterproductive. We will soon have a food crisis
if we do not change our trade policies. John Salazar voted for
and receives commodity subsidies. I will work toward the
eventual elimination of farm commodity subsidies. Of more
critical importance to people in agriculture and small
business is the elimination of the death tax.
Provide for National Security
We must pursue terrorists and be vigilant to protect our
liberty. However, even this crucial endeavor must be pursued
with fiscal responsibility. Personnel, veterans and their
families will be my priority for funding. John Salazar voted
to cut and run. I will be cautious about voting for another
war. If we do go to war, I will support the military until the
objectives of the United States are met.
Make Good on the National Promise to Seniors
We must stop taking money from the Social Security Trust Fund.
I support Medicare and working with health care providers for
long term solutions.
Limit Government Intrusion
Our first liberty of religious expression, the individual’s
right to carry firearms and due process are among the
constitutional rights that must be protected. John Salazar has
supported Nancy Pelosi who is for gun control. I will vote for
a Speaker of the House who supports the Second Amendment. |
